Drake, the rapper and philanthropist, has given away more than $1 million in scholarships and grants.
One recipient is a young woman who was seen receiving a $50K grant scholarship from Drake in his 2018 “God’s Plan” music video.
Destiny James was among the lucky recipients of $996,631.90 worth of philanthropic endeavors Drake filmed for his God’s Plan track in Miami.
She graduated with her master’s degree this year!
“Mama, I mastered it. Daddy, I did it,” James wrote. “[Four] days until I am officially UNC Alum.”
Drake, recently named “Artist-of-the-Decade” by Billboard Magazine, hopped in the post’s comments to offer his congratulations.
“LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DES,” the artist wrote.
After receiving a life-changing $50K grant scholarship from Drake, James discussed in her May 2019 blog post how she didn’t envision graduating after the cancer death of her father.
“If you would have told me my freshman year that I would be graduating from here today, I probably wouldn’t have believed it,” she said at the time.
James completed her undergraduate study at the University of Miami and is set to graduate from University of North Carolina with a Master’s in Public Health. A proud member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., according to her LinkedIn profile, James is continuing to focus on her passion.
