Have you ever felt stuck in a bad job or bad habits? And when you talk to your co-workers they give you advice like…
- Why don’t you talk to your boss and see if she can help you?
- Have you ever read (Insert Book Name Here), it’s great?
When people come to me, I tell them to repeat a four-letter word that ends with “IT.”
It’s pretty simple, actually. Ready? Here it goes: Quit. Stop thinking about it, quit. No, I don’t mean just do it right now. What I do mean is to follow the sage advice of Yoda from the Star Wars Movies.
The Power of Decision
I started my professional career trying find direction through studying books, going to seminars, and paying tens of thousands of dollars on coaching platforms. But I didn’t start changing things by learning a new tactic, script, or shiny-new-object. I changed the most when I decided to quit.

Oprah Told Jamie Foxx to Quit
One of the best ways to use this strategy is not to talk to “everybody” but find the “right”body to help you.
“To make sure the broad outlines of your plan work well and to sort through the details, you need to connect with some strong mentors,” says Richard Branson in Entrepreneur Magazine, “Having a sounding board for your ideas will be invaluable, and will help you make the transition…”
3 Essential Questions To Help You Quit
Here are three questions you can answer to start helping you make a decision:
- Is this situation helping me or hurting me?
- It there anyone you trust that can help you make a change?
- Are you willing to feel the fear and do it anyway?
The way to get out of a bad job situation is to make a decision to quit. Make a decision to speak-up. Make a decision to Get-Out-of-Your-Comfort-Zone.
